With the recent heavy downpours making summer seem like a distant memory, sports pitches across the UK will be facing their first real drainage challenge of the season. As such, it seemed like a great opportunity to check in on the new Football Foundation funded pitch drainage system installed at Ashby Ivanhoe FC in August to check in on the performance of the Hydraway Sportsdrain.
As you can see in the video below, the pitch looks in excellent condition, with no standing water in evidence – unlike some of the pitch surrounds. Furthermore, the outfall chamber is running well, with a healthy volume of collected water flowing through the system. Whilst the conditions of the pitch – rather than the flow rate of the outfall – is the only real way to measure a drainage system’s effectiveness (as collected water will sometimes percolate down below the bottom of the drainage system, rather than running to the outfall), it is nevertheless exceptionally satisfying to see high volumes of water flowing from a new installation!
