Looking to enhance its new 'Aspire' housing development in Bedford, Orbit Homes contacted Turfdry to design & construct a new sports pitch as part of the estate. Turfdry provided a full 'design & build' package for the pitch, which included a semi-automatic irrigation system, and the unique Turfdry Drainage System using Hydraway Sportsdrain.
Following the fully balanced cut & fill operations - achieved using a variety of excavators and bulldozers fitted with laser-control systems linked to 3D computer design software - the drainage was installed, prior to the pitch's turfing. This was a consequence of Orbit's proposed completion date for the broader project, which necessitated the rapid establishment of a high quality playing surface provided by turfing - as opposed to seeding.
Following completion of the works, Turfdry was delighted to be invited to the grand opening, where Bedford Mayor Dave Hodgson officially opened the facilities in front of the local press, and expressed a great deal of interest in the construction process - as well as the fabulous spread laid on in the brand new pavilion as part of the event!
