Dashwood School
Sports Pitch Design & Construction
The new Dashwood School, Banbury, was built in 2007/08 on the site of the former Banbury Cattle Market, which was designated as contaminated land. Prior to the land being released for development the top layers of soil were removed from site and replaced with non-contaminated soil above a geotextile layer, but the layer of new soil was not sufficiently deep to enable a conventional drainage system to be installed beneath the proposed new playing field.
Oxfordshire County Council had employed Turfdry on numerous successful school playing field drainage and construction projects in the past and asked if the Turfdry Drainage System could provide a satisfactory solution. Unlike conventional plastic pipe drainage the Turfdry Drainage System can be effectively installed at shallow depths and already had a proven track record in similar circumstances.
Consequently, Turfdry was appointed as a nominated specialist sub-contractor, not only to install the drainage, but on a complete ‘design & build’ contract for the overall playing field construction.
Turfdry’s ‘design and construct’ project at Dashwood School has been an unqualified success.
